Mentoring And Ministering Aggies

As an educator, a parent who has put two children through TAMU, and a former academic mentor with TAMU athletics, I am equipped to help your student navigate their way towards a rewarding and successful college experience.

Aggie M.A.M.A.'s mission is to offer insight and support as students develop their pathway through college by helping them identify their goals and by offering empowerment and encouragement to achieve those goals using proven organizational, planning and studying tools.

The mentor is both a friend and a role model who supports and encourages a younger partner in his/her academic and personal growth. The mentor is also a guide who helps a young person make the difficult change from high school to college, from parental oversight to personal accountability. This time of transition is especially important, for it is a time when young people are making decisions about how much — or how little—they can expect to achieve.  My goal as mentor is to set the student up for a successful academic semester and possibly encourage making appropriate choices in life beyond academics.

Our family loves Aggie M.A.M.A.! She is an incredible mentor to young people needing a boost of encouragement to stay organized as they venture out on their own! If you have a kid attending A&M or Blinn I highly recommend you keep this valuable resource in mind!

Working with Tonya throughout my academic career was a huge blessing. She helped me to establish a sense of personal accountability and an understanding of what it takes to be successful at Texas A&M. Tonya’s mentorship helped me to improve important skills such as motivation, organization, and strategy. As a student at a large university, it can be easy to become overwhelmed. Aggie M.A.M.A. is the perfect solution to help students push through as challenges they may face during their time at A&M.

Tonya (aka AggieMama) was exactly what my freshmen daughter needed.  She was stressed after her first semester, and needed somebody to help her get organized, provide reminders, and be an encouragement on hard days. She fills a role that I, as a parent, can’t fill without being “annoying”.  Tonya has been a huge blessing and cheerleader to my daughter and a huge reason for her success!

I like working with Tonya because she provides me with structure and is an excellent person to have on my support team.  I’ve learned a lot of study skills and organizational tricks. I really appreciate how individualized her services are to each student’s needs. She provides a good balance between accountability and encouragement. She also makes really good cookies.
